I have been unable to locate Robert J. Goode, Sr. on any 1920 Census for Pools Hill, Troup County; Franklin, Heard County; and Dallas, Heard County – all in Georgia. I know they had to live somewhere. After all, Cora was three years old in 1920, and my grandmother, Leola, was two years old. This will involve much more in-depth research.

My great grandfather, Robert J. Goode, Sr. was living in Texas, Heard, Georgia in 1930. The family lived in a rented home on a farm, where he worked as a farmer, most likely as a sharecropper. Based on the information documented on the 1940 U.S. Federal Census, some time between 1930 and 1940, the family relocated to Randolph County, Alabama.

Nicknames
Nicknames for family members are very endearing, but can sometimes be a problem when their real names are unknown. My father recently shared a funny story about nicknames and our family members.
The People in the Photograph
It’s blurry and slightly discolored, but I’d recognize the two adults in this photograph anywhere. They’re my maternal grandparents (Lish and Leola [Goode] Askew) and this is the first time that I’m seeing them (and my dad, uncle, and aunts) so young.
